Apple Tablet aka iPad (wait, what?)

The jury seems to be out on the new Apple iPad. Some are a little burnt that there is no camera function, or that you can't multi-task (i.e. read a "book" while playing music), or that the 3g function will run you some extra $$$, but at the end of the day, its 9.7 inches, only 1.5lbs, and although not HD, looks pretty clear to me. I'm sure the hype will grow once the product actually drops (March-ish)....

DJ Neil Armstrong - Warm and Fuzzy Mixtape

"This is NOT what you want to bump when you're planning your next driveby. It IS the cd you should give your homegirl or emothug on 2-14, it IS something you should listen to if you like all types of music and skills...." - DJ Armstrong.

This mixtape is CLASSIC. Not sure if you remember, but two years ago, DJ Neil Armstrong put together this Warm and Fuzzy Mixtape, with seamless blends between hits from artists such as MJ, New Edition, Alicia Keys, Hall and Oates, Sade, Al Green, Earth Wind & Fire, and many more. Purchase the baby-making package by Feb 3rd for guaranteed delivery by Valentines Day (Includes the hardcopy of the CD and an american-apparel printed "Warm and Fuzzy" woman's thong) for $16.

Or, for those affected by the recession, DJ Neil Armstrong has hooked up a free link to DOWNLOAD on his site. If you burn it, make sure and set the settings so you don't get a delay between songs, because like I said, the mix is seamless. Thanks to Big Boy for the heads up.

Purchase your Free Gilbert Tee now for $25. They have 3 sizes available. "Choose one".

Who Wanna Rock Right Now?

Snoop's single, "I want to Rock" (video above) was the first sign that his newest cd, Malice in Wonderland, was going to be serious. The combination of the simple/hard hitting beat, with Snoops laid back flow, brought me back to the Doggystyle days (and IMO, this is by far Snoop's best effort since his debut record).

Anyway, other rappers took notice, and jumped all over the beat, making it the 2010 version of 2002's "Grindin"beat, or more recent A Milli". Complex is currently hosting a poll where you can vote on who killed the beat best (Bun B, Cassidy, Crooked I, Jeezy, Banks, The Dogg Pound, Rae, Joell Ortiz, etc etc etc). Of course, Jay-Z is currently taking the lead. Not sure if its because of all the actual rap, or if its due to his loyal following, but I'll give him credit where credit is due ("...Lyrics is the only thing I slang now/ I get the job done, I put the 'cain down/it's no 'Biggie', I'm just the King now"). Shout to friend of Oh Snaps Thats Tight, Crooked I, currently holding down 2nd. Check out the songs, and VOTE for your favorite.

Passarella Death Squad - Spring/Summer 2010

Wow, talk about juxtaposition. The UK's own Passarella Death Squad takes the photos of exotic woman and throws them over your favorite Disney iconic charachters such as Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Donald Duck. Throw those images on soft-washed Japanese fabric, and you've got a winner in my eyes! Via Freshness mag.

Modern Cellar - Sporadic Wine Rack

Really feeling this vertical wine rack from Modern Cellar. The positives are obviously the sleek design and fact that saves valuable table space, in addition to the fact its eco-friendly ("sustainable wood, no toxic glue/finish"). Only negative I can think of is that it only holds 6-bottles (solution - buy 2!!) That, and you have to rotate the bottles often to maintain the wine, but hey, how long does wine stay on the racks, anyway? Purchase here.

Oh Snaps...That's Tight x LA TIMES

The Los Angeles Times lists their Fashion Trends That Must Die with 2009. For the most part, I agree with their list (Couture, -ista, Boyfriend Jeans, Green, etc.) I take issue with #8.

The "X". An increasingly common bit of typographical shorthand cribbed from sneakerhead and street fashion blogs, the "X" (as in "times") is supposed to telegraph the idea of a supercool collaboration between two labels, designers or retailers. Maybe it's annoying because it's reminiscent of math equations (which are also annoying), but it's also lazy lexicography. Some of the more memorable multiplications include Obey X Levi's, Opening Ceremony X Where the Wild Things Are, Erin Wasson X RVCA, Colette X Gap and the tripartite Adidas X UNDFTD X Estevan Oriol. An equation we'd like to see? 2010 = 2009-X.

Sorry folks. Unlike print media, the X is here to stay.

Spiz'ike - Do You Know?

I don't typically mess with the Spiz'ike's (for the uninformed, think: Jordan Mash-ups where they take elements from multiple classic Jordan shoes and create a new shoe), but these are kind of clean. Available at PROPER in LBC now. Speaking of Proper (and LBC), who saw Crooked I rockin' that Proper hat in his new video for On to the Next Ish? Word to Crooked!

IM KING x N4EI - Four Eyes

The unlikely pair (no pun intended) collab on a pair of eyeglasses? Interesting. More:
It is only natural to design some facewear that can be worn all day. The concept of the design is to create a frame that is versatile, yet caters specifically to the person wearing them – shape, size, and overall style aesthetic were all equally considered. “The collaboration between N4E1 and IMKing is fresh, because the two brands cater to a completely different group of consumers. N4E1 is more a grown up look, meanwhile IMKING is aimed towards the fun crowd,” said N4E1 Director of Operations, Stephen Lee. “Put both together and you get utter sophistication.”
As trends come and go, Stephen(N4E1) & Andy(IMKING) recognizes the classic factor of these frames and was inspired to conjure up what would be an accessory that can stand the test of time. The frames made of a faux wood-grain texture, stained in a deep brown-black hue, and silver- embossed with the N4E1 and IK signature logos on both opposite arms are nestled in a chic matte-black box and also includes an imprinted lens cleaner. They drop next Friday at www.IMKING.com and selected retailers.

Theophilus London - This Charming Mixtape

Complex shows love to my boy Thophilus London and his "This Charming Mixtape" by rating it the 21st best album (yes, album, not mixtape) of 2009. Do yourself a favor and download it here.

Complex co-sign: "We knew about Theophilus before 2009, but this project made us believe in him. If Morrissey made hip-hop set to electronic beats, it might sound something like This Charming Mixtape. With seemingly every rapper going left field these days, it’s getting a little tired, but Theo showed us that it’s still enjoyable if done right. Others took notice too, and now this Brooklyn kid counts folks like Mark Ronson, Solange, and Passion Pit amongst his contemporaries."

The Award Tour - Return of the Design Dungeon

Lochness of the The Award Tour gives us an update on the status of its Winter Line-up, and lets us know he's back in the Design Dungeon, getting it in.

" I never really cared about releasing the things when everyone else was dropping their collections, and from now on I’m going to be a lot more upfront about that so you all are completely aware that the clothing will drop when it drops. That usually occurs at the start of summer, and sometime at the beginning of the second semester in January/February. From now I’ll will just be dropping by semester with some special releases like the Snow Cap beanies thrown into the mix. The clothes can be worn year round, no sense in trying to connect them with some random season."

There is something about the energy that goes in to the hand-drawn designs/logos/font that continue to make The Award Tour one of my top 5 brands out in the game. Keep an eye out for big things from the AT family.

Shawn Stussy comments on "Stussy x Bearbrick" collab

Shawn Stussy, the original creater/designer/owner of the company that bears his signature and last name, comments on the recently released Stussy x Bearbrick 30th anniversarly collab. See below for the shots fired:

"Okay, I try to focus on the positive and soulful with this little blog project here... But, on my cruise through the blogosphere this morning I come across this photo with explanation of what it is, blah, blah, blah... Well now I am forced to make one thing perfectly clear to any of the brethren that frequent this location, or anyone interested in my journey... I, Shawn Stussy, have nothing to do with the corporation using my surname in any way, and have not since I sold my interest many years ago... After seeing something of this caliber touted as something cool, I am more than a little confused and a bit embarrased to tell you the truth... Dude, please tell me this is not what people out there are waiting for... SS"

Follow Shawn Stussy's very visual and artistic blog here, and look forward to S-Double dropping soon!

Jay Z - On to the Next One
