Supreme - Japan Box Logo (Benefit)

WOW - I was really hoping that Supreme was going to drop some sort of Benefit T - especially with all their Flagships in the Land of the Rising Sun, and the unabashed love that the Japanese subculture shows to Supreme. Lo and behold - here we are - Supreme drops a classic box logo with subtle homage shown  to Japan.

100% of all the proceeds from the sales of the t-shirt will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society. Available in-store and online on April 8th. Available in Japan on April 9th.

Show some love and support!

CXXVI - Spring/Summer 2011

I haven't had a chance to check out CXXVI's gear in the past - but after checking out their current lookbook - I get it. Vintage casual beachwear - not in the vein of the playful and bright Warriors of Radness - but rather more of a biker-chic kind of look. To keep it 100, I wasn't as drawn to clothes as much as I was to the actual pics in the lookbook - have a nice aged/authentic look to them, so be sure to check out the flicks over at Hypebeast.

ONLY NY - 2011

Made in the USA? Hand drawn designs? You already know I'm a fan of ONLY NY. Check out their online store for the Spring/Summer 2011 line-up (available now!) and also some product from last season which has been marked down to some recession-friendly prices. Check out a couple of my favorite pieces from the collection after the jump.

APC Spring/Summer 2011

I was hesitant to post the details surrounding APC's latest offering - as a couple of the looks were downright ridiculous ("The Nerdy Suge Knight") and I can't stand the wash on these jeans - the overall feel of the line-up is still classic and timeless - pretty much what we've come to expect from the French powerhouse. If you are in LA - definitely stop by the APC flagship store. Staff is cool and super friendly - not pretentious like a lot of the shops around town.

Big K.R.I.T. | Returnof4eva (Mixtape)

Please do yourself a favor and download this I slept on him but after enough people kept telling me how much he sounds like early 3000 or Big Boi I had to listen this tape is fresh and the beats are raw.

I am proud to present “Return Of 4eva” to all my supporters, I took the past year to work on this project. I reached out to some of my favorite artists that I felt represented what this album was about. Ludacris, Bun B, David Banner, Chamillionaire, Big Sant, Joi & Raheem Devaughn all helped me to make my vision of this album complete. I hope you all love it. Download it for free at www.returnof4eva.com stay blessed – K.R.I.T.

Adam Kimmel x Supreme Collaborate on Suits

Say what you will about Supreme as a skate shop - but when it comes to their collaboration projects and the quality of products produced - they are unparalleled. Almost a year to the date of Supreme's collaboration with (previous recipient of the GQ Designer of the Year award) Thom Browne, comes this collaboration with Adam Kimmel on a pair of mens suits (Navy, Black) for their Spring Collection.

Adam Kimmel launched his eponymous men's wear line in 2004 in New York. Known for creating timeless styles that infuse comfortable, utilitarian work wear with a sophisticated and elegant feel. Often inspired by artists and art movements, Kimmel has collaborated with art world luminaries like George Condo, Gerard Melanga, George Herms, Dan Colen and Ryan McGinley among others.

Working from the same principal of inspiration through popular culture and art. Supreme has worked with Adam Kimmel to produce a two-piece suit for this Spring. The suit is understated, youthful, well crafted, and made from Italian cotton twill. It features an unlined two button suit jacket & custom fit pant. Available in two colorways; navy and black.

Available in-store and online March 31st. Available in Japan on April 2nd.

More pics/info available here. Oh, and while on the subject of Supreme, check out Hypebeast for some additional pics of the Spring collection, featuring none-other than current 'it'-guy Tyler the Creator,  of OFWGKTA shot for  Ollie Magazine.

Freshjive - Topanga Canyon

SLUB TWIST FLEECE HOOD, HORN TOGGLE PLACKET CLOSURE, CONTRAST WOVEN STRIPE HOOD LINING, LOWER ROUNDED POCKETS

Available now at The Reserve and @ their online shop is this cut and sew hoody from Freshjive. Featuring a "Slub Twist Fleece Hood, Horn Toggle Placket Closure, Contrast Woven Stripe Hood Lining, Lower Rounded Pockets", as well as what looks to be ribbed cuffs for a more fitted feel. I really cosign what Freshjive has been up to lately, and the fact that they have been able to flip the branding of the gear (by removing the "brand" altogether!) is evidence to their staying power. Rick Klotz founded the company in 1989 - and the fact that Freshjive is still making noise in the industry says a lot.

The Hundreds - Santa Monica

You can now add Santa Monica to the ranks of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, as one of the cities that plays host to a Hundreds Flagship store. While I would have expected a city with a more prominent role in the fashion scene (given the industry - I was thinking that it was going to be Japan) - the low-key vibe of Santa Monica fits the company's focus on California streetwear well. While I am still concerned about the proximity between the Santa Monica store and the original flagship on Rosewood - I am sure they took that in to consideration and determined that the market exists - so kudos. All I know is that from an archetectual/design standpoint - each of the last 3 buildouts (LA,SF,NY) have brought a unique style and full-on 'experience' to the customer - so I'm looking forward to seeing what Santa Monica brings to the table. Check out the preview video Bobby & co dropped online after the jump, as well as some links to the though process behind the design of the previous 3 stores. #Hype.

Nike Free Run+ 2 (Challenge Red/White/Black)

My favorite Red on Red shoe of all time are my 2001 Nike Air Presto ID's - but if Nike removed the black off the heal of these Free Run+ 2.0's - these would take the cake. Featuring a mix of mesh and suede - don't these shoes just look fast? Available now at CNCPTS at a economic-recovery-safe price of $90. Check out NiceKicks for more pics.

B.O.B. | No Future

So there are two song I think B.O.B goes hard on in my opinion this one and the Teach Me How To Dougie Remix. Otherwise he is hit and miss with me. Sad thing about this song is it's a diss record shot at Odd Future for his line in Yonkers which I won't repeat. Tyler, The Creator actually likes this song so therefore diss was a fail in my opinion. This song goes hard wish we heard more of this style from B.O.B. Enjoy!

Nike '92 Pegasus

The year was 1992. The Dream Team ruled the summer, Wayne's World was in theatres, Brett Farve was a rookie, George H.W. Bush was in office, Pablo Escabar escaped from Colombian prison, The top 3 songs on the Billboard 100 were End of the Road (Boyz II Men), Baby Got Back (Sir Mix a Lot), and Jump (Kriss Kross), LA Rioted, and a young Silk got his first pair of Nike Air Pegasus'. 19 years later - Nike is giving me the chance to slip in to a new pair as they retro the '92 Nike Air Pegasus. Available for pre-order now at Hanon Shop, via Hypebeast. Party on.

Hit the jump for more from a time not forgotten.

Obey - Dark Wave Rising Sun

Shepard Fairey of OBEY fame is releasing this 18 x 24″ Screen Print (signed, numbered, limited edition print of 700) to raise funds to assist Japan in their drastic time of need. For the personal note from Shepard that accompanied the piece - hit the jump. Say what you will about the man's 'style' of art - but regardless of how you feel - the cause is commendable.

John Legend | Rolling In The Deep (Adele Cover/Accapella)

This is smooth. JL has been silent for a little and just doing features. I smell a album in the works solo that is. The Roots/JL album wasn't bad at all great collab. Enjoy!

COLOR - Photo/Social Interaction App

If you have been following the blog somewhat consistently - you know that I'm not the hugest tech guy out there. In fact, this is the first post I've done related to a smartphone app since....ever. So what is it that's drawn me to this new app, aptly titled COLOR? Well, its simple really. Color got $41 million dollars to fund their operations (here's the kicker) pre-launch! As someone that's worked for a start-up - and has gone through the process of various capital raises - I have hands on experience with Companies that have shown a successful  product to the market (and actually earned revenues), struggle to get adequate funding to grow. So that being said, when I read about this Company getting $41mill before it even launched in the market - I was intrigued from jump.

How'd they pull it off? Well, personel was definitely key. "Headed by Bill Nguyen — who sold Lala to Apple in late 2009 — the company has attracted a wealth of talent. It has seven founders including Nguyen and company president Peter Pham, who previously founded BillShrink. And its chief of product is DJ Patil, who was previously LinkedIn’s chief scientist."

Yeah - I'll say it again for emphasis - Personel was definitely key. Show me someone who was able to succeed in the past, and 9 times out of 10 - I'll put money on them to figure out a way to succeed in the future, and it looks like that is what Sequoia Capital, Bain Capital, and Silicon Valley Bank.

For more info on this new photo-sharing/social app - check out techcrunch. In the mean time, download the app, and add me (name: SiLK). Let's get it!

Leigh Wiener for Warriors of Radness

Collection includes 3 shirts - each featuring photos shot by Leigh Wiener in May of 1960.

Leigh Wiener was an award-winning American photographer and photojournalist. In a career that spanned five decades, he covered hundreds of people and events. His images captured the public and private moments of entertainers, musicians, artists, authors, poets, scientists, sports figures, politicians, industrialists, and heads of state, including every U.S. president from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan. On a faithful summer day in 1960, on assignment at Malibu, he turned his lens on the hoards of surfers at Surfrider Beach capturing a pristine moment in the history of Los Angeles surf culture.
The shirts are available at select retailers worldwide. In Southern California you can find them at American Rag, Ron Herman, Thalia Surf Shop, Reserve, and Fred Segal Man.
Available online:

PlayCloths - Liston Coin Pouch

To commemorate Pusha T's damn GOOD mixtape that came out earlier today - I figured it was only right to give some shine to some of the Clipse' other ventures. First off is this sharp coin pouch from their current season. Simple in design + functional use = quality product. Also - for those complaining about the lack of Silk's Book Club entries of late - check out Malice's first foray into writing books, "Wretched, Pitifiul, Poor, Blind, and Naked", out now.

Pusha T | Fear of God (Mixtape)

Finally a GOOD mixtape. This is a really great bundle of music and when its free it always makes it (well most of the times makes it) enjoyable. Also check the tracklist and back cover album art after the jump. Enjoy!

Peter Jensen - Fall/Winter 2011

Obviously this is not reflective of what you may expect to see on this site, and even when looking at this model's outfit - "Oh Snaps! That's tight..." may be the one of the furthest thoughts from your head - but from an artistic standpoint - I'm driven to the visual. Thrift-store chic? Granpa Swag? Call it what you want - but from a full "outfit" perspective - I can dig it. I can't rock it. But I can dig it. Check the full line up over at the 'Beast.

Stussy x Fragment Design - Japan Collabo

Stussy and Fragment Design collaborate on a Tshirt which will raise funds to donate proceeds direct to the Red Cross  to help out with the catostrophic events currently going on out there - living in California, home of the San Andreas fault, this Earthquake stuff definitely hits close to home. Hit the Jump for the "One World, One Love, One Heart" T shirt design.

Nate Dogg | 8.19.69 - 3.15.11 (All Doggs Go to Heaven)

Everyone who loves music and hip hop knew who Nate Dogg was he's a legend and a West Coast revolutionary. He has been battling health problems for a while now. Death is never cool and is always a sad time but also a time to remember and celebrate life, history, and in this case some classic hits. My buddy Mike Lebow aka @J83out put together this super dope list of Nate songs. I really don't think he left out any classics. I wish I could put all this on one CD but for now just let it play and embrace the smooth sounds of Nate Dogg! Also one last not I actually bought the Nate Dogg Music and Me CD at a BX while I was in the Air Force because I loved his music so much. I think I gave it away to a buddy in MT a few years back wish I could get that back now. Enjoy and RIP. All doggs go to heaven!

Man people sleep on Tyga... I follow a bunch of blogs and only one posted this song so shout out to @illroots #teamfollowback. I think his new CD will be solid I can listen to his style and his beats are solid. This song is really smooth and def worth your DL. Look out for Careless World!

Creative Marketing 101 - Bench Ads

I was checking out the PlayCloths blog the other day, and came across this interesting ad campaign from DDB Auckland, in which they "altered benches to press an advertisement for Superette, a clothing chain in New Zealand, into the bare legs of people who sit on them. They read “Short shorts on sale Superette”.

I obviously wouldn't be stoked to serve as a walking advertisement for a brand that I don't represent - but at the end of the day, the choice is in the individuals hand - sit or don't sit. Obviously a different point of reference is whether or not the firm is sourcing all of the benches independently, or altering part of the public domain, but regardless, kudos to DDB Aucland for thinking outside of the box on this one!

Cody Hudson x Stussy

Little known fact - aside from his various paintings, installations, sculptures, and other projects - Cody Hudson designed The Cool Kids logo - true story.

Cody is a Chicago based artist who also serves as owner and creative director of the design firm Struggle Inc. Known for the production of clean, multi-dimensional graphics, his design aesthetic is part urban modernism and part organic visual deconstruction. His graphic work and paintings have been exhibited throughout the US, Europe and Japan including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), New Image Art (Los Angeles), Rocket Gallery (Tokyo), The Lazy Dog (Paris) and Andrew Rafacz (Chicago). Cody’s work has been featured in numerous magazines and publications including IdN, Arkitip, Anthem and Juxtapoz.
The Stussy x Cody Hudson tee shirts are available now at Stussy.com and Stussy Chapter Stores.

Nice video of Cody's process in action, in addition to my favorite shirt from the collection, after the jump.

Air Jordan VII - White/Orion Blue/Red

Jordan Brand's latest retro release is going to be the Air Jordan VII in this White/Orion Blue/Red colorway. I go back and back with the Jordan Brand continuously re-releasing old models in new colorways. On one hand - I understand, the market is demanding it, and they switch it up enough to keep everyone interested. But on the other hand, I yearn for the days when the exclusive drops and re-releases were less in number, and it actually took time and effort to build a sneaker collection that could stand on its own. Now a days, A kid can come up on 5 different classic Jordan models in the span of 2 weeks. Either way - I can't change the game - so be on the lookout for these, droppin' March 26th.

HUF SF - SPRING 2011

Just a couple of days after the news got around town that HUF would be closing down shop in 'the city' (no pun intended) that it helped build (from a Streetwear perspective) - their new Spring line-up of goods get delivered. If you didn't buy the hype about HUF closing down the skate shops so they could focus on their clothing and shoe market and build their own brand as Keith himself announced - this collection serves as proof in the pudding. If you can't make it down to the only remaining HUF flagship (on Fairfax in LA) - the goods are available online here.

J.Hop | OSTT Vol. I

It's Finally here!!!! So this is the first monthly edition of the Oh Snaps Thats Tight Vol. I mixtape (OSTT Vol. I). So I have been collecting a bunch of music through my phone on an app called Sound Hound. A few of the tracks you may have already heard or may not have heard but since people are always looking for new music I figured I'd put together a mixtape full of music for a change instead of one post at a time. Please note that this is a wide variety of music I never attach myself to just one genre I love all music and I will do specific genres later on but the first one will be a mix of songs I love. These tracks have great melody and tone. Hopefully you enjoy it and find at least a couple songs that relate to you or ones you love and have already heard. Thanks for following and supporting too by the way. Oh and if you haven't bookmarked ohsnapsthatstight.com or hopspot please do so. Hit the jump for a breakdown on each track and why I picked it. Also if you have any problems playing any of the tracks hit me up and let me know. If you didn't know this is one of my favorite pictures of all-time. I think my plan is to do a different classic pic each month. Stay tuned and enjoy!

Nike Free Run 2 Teal Orange

Nike is slowly starting to roll out some of their Summer colorways of popular models. Included in the latest round of leaks, attached is the Nike Free Run 2 model, in a Miami-esque Teal and Orange combo. Looking forward to seeing more summer colorways of other models. Great running shoe - but stylish enough to wear around in the Summer sun.

Check out more specs here.

Asher Roth | Back Home (Ft. Chip Tha Ripper)

If Asher keeps doing these beats by Blended Babies he will quickly jump to one of my favorites. I know I say crazy stuff like that all the time but you know when a beat fits someone perfectly it enhances their stock in my opinion. I like Chip on these style beats too but I hope Asher keeps killin it. Enjoy!

Agisam 2011 - Fall/Winter Collection

"With the strong emphasis on entirely bespoke and humor, [AgiaandSam] believe that Fashion should never be taken too seriously"

AgiaandSam, or Agia & Sam, is the brainchild of two designers that met while working for Alexander McQueen - and they are definitely bringing an interesting approach to menswear. Their work consists of inspiration from the early 90's, mixed with a side of high fashion, and topped with modern fits and silouhettes. You can check out the complete lookbook over at their site, and while you are there, read about more of Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton's adventures in fashion. While their current offerings are bold, bright, and upfront, the particular collection drew inspiration from the "effects of gentrification and boganistion through society and culture over the last 25 years.”

*Disclaimer* - While I for one would not rock 95% of the items in their collection - I can appreciate it from a "fashion is art" perspective.

Travis Barker | Cool Head (Ft. Kid Cudi)

One word.... FRESH! This beat is too nice and being that my father was a drummer it runs through my blood nothing but respect and Kid Cudi with the lazy flow can never hurt. Enjoy!

Asher Roth | More Cowbell

Yessss! Music! I'm a big Asher Roth fan more of a A. Roth fan than Em yes I said it. He's more raw and there is always something with artist that aren't commercial yet and come real. Can't wait to see him in concert again when he came out and did Soul 4 Real - Candy Rain I lost my mind. Real Recognizes Real! Enjoy! P.S. This is a Blended Babies beat, I can dig it!

Supreme x Playboy Spring Collection

Wow - chalk this one up to the "unexpected collaboration projects" column - Supreme and Playboy collab on various products - including a Varsity Jacket, Crewneck Sweatshirt, Polo (shown above), Pocket T, Beanie, Hats, and more.

Playboy is an American men's magazine that was founded in Chicago in 1953 by Hugh Hefner and his associates. Over time the Playboy brand has come to symbolize the high life for men - both real and imagined. One of the most iconic symbols of our time, the Playboy bunny, has been appropriated by pop and youth culture for decades, most significantly during the early heydays of hip-hop culture in New York City in the late 1970's and early 80's.

This Spring, Supreme will release a capsule collection along with Playboy.

TOMS - Spring 2011

TOMS has launched their Spring 2011 line-up online and at select retailers - and they have really increased the quality and design of their pieces, while continuing to benefit millions of people across the world (yes- you read that correct - although they did not launch their 'one-for-one' program until 2006, in September 2010, they gave away their millionth pair of shoes). As their popularity continues to grow, so do their benevolent deeds. Also, as part of the Spring collection, TOMS has also began selling various clothing products - such as this "Thank You" shirt, in addition to some logo t's and hoodies.  I'm not sure if they donate on a one-for-one basis for clothing sales as well - but regardless - TOMS is a stand-up brand, and #isupport.

Toy Joy

It's been awhile since I've posted any toys vinyl art - and that coincides with the fact that I really haven't purchased any new pieces lately. I love Kozik pieces, but I feel like his work for KR has been a bit mundane and predictable of late. I stumbled on this Captain Corndog vs Baron von Broccoli set over at Toy Joy's site (more info on the store below). Could potentially be a new addition to the toy chest  art display case.

Toy Joy is a true Austin original. We are an independent toy store and were established in 1987 to supply locals with meaningful toys. Toy Joy soon became famous for it's revolving stock of strange knick knacks and exotic goods. The concept grew along with the city, and soon Toy Joy became one of the largest and most popular toy retailers in the US.  People were traveling from all around the globe to experience a less typical children's retailer.
In 2008 Toy Joy found new ownership with a couple who have dedicated their life to toys, and the pursuit of fun. Expanding into the space next door, adding a cafe with vegan soft serve and bubble teas, and a “Tokyo Toy Joy” for a more complete tour of light-hearted design and nostalgic playthings.

Nike-Air-PR1-Black-Black-Dark-Grey

One word: Fresh!

Edit: Ok, a couple more words. I'm really curious to see how the hype around these shoes is. In my opinion, these are hotter than all but one of the Air Yeezy colorways - and we all know how quick those sold out/what the resell market is like. I don't like high-tops, which is why I passed on the Air Yeezy's to begin with, but this colorway is hot. Now, we'll see if people actually liked the Yeezy's, or if it as all about the name attached to them, because aside from a few minor details (upper silhouette, strap, etc) - these are pretty dead on.

Via Sole Collector:

Inspired by the original Nike Air Pressure from 1989, Nike has dropped the updated Air PR1 at retailers this year. With additional design cues taken from shoes like the Nike Air Flight Like and Air Jordan III, the Air PR1 is a sport-inspired sneaker intended more for style purposes in the same vein as a shoe like the Air Yeezy.

This pair features a black and dark grey nubuck upper with tonal leather elephant print along the side panel and ankle. Tiffany-like water blue offers a sharp contrast to the darker base on the inner liner and Jordan III outsole.

Mighty Healthy x Charlie Sheen - Winning Shirt

So Charlie Sheen has been on a rampage (and a media blitz) these last few weeks - that goes without saying. If you have somehow been avoiding the train wreck that is occurring before our eyes - congrats - you are a better man than me. I can't help but get enjoyment out of soundbites such as:

On being with porn stars: “Wow. Well, listen to that statement. Look at what they do. Look what I do. It’s like, ‘Duh.’ […] They’re the best at what they do. I’m the best at what I do. It’s like, ‘Duh.’ Sorry, Middle America. I said it.” – to 20/20

On drugs: “The last time I took drugs I probably took more that anyone could survive. I was banging seven gram rocks because that’s how I roll, I have one speed, go. I have a different constitution, a different brain, a different heart. I got tiger blood man.” – to 20/20

On his home rehab: “Well, we couldn’t really call it rehab because we didn’t have a license to operate one, so it was a crisis management centre that we labelled the Sober Valley Lodge. … its primary client achieved radical success.” – to the Today Show

I could go on for days with more quality quotes, but that's not what you come here for. Mighty Healthy just unleashed the above preview of an upcoming shirt via their twitter page, thus ending my bet of who would be the first major brand to unleash a limited shirt paying homage to Sheen. No release information yet, but this shirt is radical, "duh".
