The Hundreds - Spring 2011

California's own, The Hundreds, just released images from their Spring 2011 line. Very laidback, casual, and beachy. Good look for them - a tad less "graphic" heavy than seasons past. Check the set of pics from the lookbook at the TH site.

YMC NAVAJO LACE UP DECK SHOES

I check out Oki Noki's site/store from time to time - and although a lot of the stuff on their site is a little too, um, fashion forward for me, they do have gems from time to time. These YMC deck shoes fall in that category for me. Simple shoe in nature - interesting enough print to spice up any otherwise basic outfit. Note to sneaker heads: it's ok to step outside the comfort zone (Jordan's, Dunks, Air Force 1's, Air Max's, etc) from time to time. Same goes for you, hipsters (Chucks, Vans, Toms).

Obey - Spring/Summer 2011

OBEY just released their Spring/Summer Lookbook (images here) - and their collection is very strong. If you've been coming to the site for awhile, you know that I'm not a fan of pre-distressed denim, and prefer to buy them Raw and earn the whiskers, honeycombs, fade, and general wear!) - but - the was on these jeans above is crazy. Good look.

Nike Hyperfuse Lo - All Star Colorways

I need some new "performance" basketball shoes. I've been thinking about going with another pair of ZOOM KOBE's because you can't beat the level of comfort - especially at that weight - but I'm leaning towards picking up some of the NBA ALL-STAR/LA EDITION Hyperfuse Low's. I'm diggin' a couple of these colorways! Available soon - or via EBAY now.

GQ Magazine x Warriors of Radness

Man, congrats to Warriors of Radness for recently being nominated for "Best New Menswear Designer for 2011" in GQ Magazine! This is a huge look for the brand bringing vintage Southern California beachwear back to the forefront. Crazy - doesn't feel like its been more than  2 years since I first blogged about this new favorite brand of mine, but here we are, in 2011 - with WOR getting shine! Big ups...

Highsnobiety Presents: Freshjive Fall/Winter 2011

Highsnobiety TV: A Look at Freshjive Fall/Winter 2011 from Highsnobiety on Vimeo.

Check out the video above featuring Rick Klotz, Freshjive owner/designer, talking about Freshjive's upcoming season. The line-up continues to blur the line between streetwear and high fashion with some of the unconventional takes on standard clothing staples. While I may not rock all of the collection - I do enjoy hearing the thought process around incorporating certain details of a design from the designer themelves.

PACDIV | Anti Freeze

PACDIV! So these are local boys and also my new favorite group until Outkast makes a Jordan like comeback. These dudes are nice in concert and the bounce to their music gets the juices flowing (no homo) Mania will be out soon. Enjoy!

DL: Anti Freeze

Theophilus London | Why Even Try (Ft. Sara Quin)

My partner in blog put me on game with this guy. TL is super talented. Still have to catch him live. I think him and CuDi would make a killer collab album. Can you imagine? I'll wait...............
Exactly, EARGASM! Enjoy this soulful track. Lovers Holiday coming soon.

Anthony Michael Sneed - Hell for Hire Exhibit

Anthony Michael Sneed is an artist who appears to be heavily influenced by those artists that have been contributing to Gallery 1988's 3G show over the years. The juxtaposition of his controversial subject matter against a playful digitized/pixel style of painting that looks straight out of a late 80's Nintendo game draws me in. 80's babies such as myself are hit two-fold in the image above - positive childhood images reminiscing of Lil Mac's training run from Mike Tyson's Punchout, offset against the most destructive domestic terrorist attack on US Soil since Pearl Harbor.

Check out the video below for some more images from the artists recent exhibit. To be honest - I'm not a huge fan of the artists #swag, a bit pretentious for my taste - but that's pretty standard. One thing pops taught me at a young age- you (almost always) need to separate the art from the artist.

Oh Snaps! That's tight...

Despite the content of this site over the last 5+ years - you may be surprised to know one thing - I'm not a fan of hype -  and often treat it like a four letter word. While I understand the purpose of generating additional interest/excitement about ones upcoming projects prior to their release- I think much more can be said of a product that can be dropped out of the blue and stand on its own for what it is. 1

That being said - some of you have already started to see some changes around here (some bigger than others), from the domain name itself, http://www.ohsnapsthatstight.com/, to our new full time music contributor, J-Hop2 While I'm extremely happy about both of these updates, know that 2011 is going to be a big year, and we have a few more surprises awaiting in the not-so-distant future - from new site content, to another new contributor or two, to some exclusive product on its way. 3

Thanks for all your support over the years - and hope you are buckled in and ready for continued growth, and more of the hottest of the hot. The Internet is a crazy place, and there is a lot of madness that goes on. When it comes to clothes, shoes, music, and other items of interest, we stay in the know so you don't have to filter through all the madness on your own. We'll leave it to the other sites to hit you over the head with incessant quantity, but here? Nothing but the best. No filler.

SiLK

Footnotes
1 Sorry - the negativity was heavy. It just irks me when some artists or labels put more time and effort in to promoting their product via snippets, sneak peaks, leaked photo's, behind the scene videos, constant twitter/FB posts, emails, etc) then they do putting the project together to begin with. Basically, don't talk about it, be about it!
2 Couldn't be more excited to have J-Hop aboard. He's been in the scene for a minute and has a good ear for quality stuff. Don't fall for the trap either. His music chops are more well-rounded then you may think - and if you pay attention you'll soon see. Don't sleep!
3 Yikes, see what I just did there? Hypocrite much?

FRESHJIVE SPRING 2011 SNEAK PEAK

Freshjive let an image of a t-shirt from their Spring 2011 line up leak, and it looks to be part of their continued "The World's Got Problems" theme, this time paying homage to Father Yod of the Source Family (no, not the magazine that hands out MIC's to rate albums).

FATHER YOD & THE SOURCE FAMILY: AMERICA'S MYSTIC COMMUNE OF THE 70'S

Founded by the deeply spiritually and infectiously charismatic Father Yod, (pronounced “yode”), The Source Family served as a spiritual commune throughout the 1970’s, offering guidance to over 300 followers, while providing a haven for self enlightenment and understanding. Spawned from the experiences and teachings of James E. Baker, later recreating himself as the formidable Father Yod, The Source Family was born out of Baker’s spiritual exploration, and remains one of the most unique counter cultural movements of the 1970's.

Game | Purp & Patron (Mixtape) by DJ Skee - Funkmaster Flex

Hurricane Game! So here is the newest mixtape from the Compton native. I really despise tags and DJ's jumping all over mixtapes especially FMF and DJ Khaled... Thank goodness DJ Clue stopped saying Desert Storm on every Fab record. Trying to not hate as much I know everyone has to get their "paper"

This is just the first CD. The second CD is suppose to drop later tonight. Pretty good stuff though hopefully the mixtape w/o tags is coming soon. ENJOY!

Jordan CMFT 11 Viz Air -

Man - I stumbled on these Chlorine Blue/Black-Spark-Anthracite Jordan CMFT 11 Viz Air's this morning and they've been all that I can think about. I haven't felt this way about a non-retro NIKE release in a minute (check the archives!)

Wifey wanted to know if they are running shoes, or low-top basketball shoes - and while debating on whether or not to go in to the history of the archetecture of the model itself (One part Air Max 1, One part Jordan 11, splashed with the "South Beach" colorway from the Zoom Lebron 8) - I instead went with the much easier response of "It doesn't even matter - they're lifestyle kicks, and I'm getting em!"

Release date of February 1 - I'll be there. More pics via NikeBlog.

Nike Zoom Kobe VI - 3D

Wow - as if Kobe's footwork doesn't get the defenders confused enough, Nike hooked up Kobe's signature kicks in a "3D Markup"to really get the opposing team's heads spinning. Check out more pics over at NK.

aNYthing - Spring/Summer 2011

ANYTHING (a NY thing) has let a few images from their Spring/Summer 2011 line-up leak. Check out the full spread here. All in all - a nice collection - obviously a little bright in places, which is offset slightly by the preppy cut. Pic above is the only fit you could rock in total from head to toe without looking like a teenage wrapper from the Bay area, but any of the pieces on their own could be a valued part of a wardrobe.

Stussy x Manhattan Portage Collection

Stussy collaborated with (New York's own) Manhattan Portage on a backpack, messenger bag and a light shoulder bag. I wish Stussy went back to their "Made in the USA" roots - but this collab is a step in the right direction - over what I'm sure would be the more popular move of collaborating with Porter on a line of bags. Just my thoughts...

NIKE x TomTom - GPS Watch

I love products where fashion meets products - and few have done it consistently as well as Nike. This GPS watch shown above is no different.

“The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is designed for high performance with an extremely clear and readable user interface that delivers the information necessary to the user while in-run. It adds personalization and motivational features to the running experience, including audible sounds, challenges, run reminders and more.

The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is designed to be simple and intuitive with only three buttons and a Tap Screen for navigation. During the run, the new Nike+ SportWatch GPS captures location information while showing runners their time, distance, pace, and calories burned on an easy-to-read screen featuring a customizable layout. Throughout the run, the GPS receiver works in tandem with the shoe-based Nike+ Sensor to deliver highly accurate pace and distance data.”

Allen Iverson - Fallen Star

Robert Hubur wrote a nice expose on Allen Iverson. I almost want to call it the "tragedy" of Allen Iverson. I'll never forget AI's rookie year - attacking the rim like the Bulldog that ordains his left bicep, with the speed of a humming bird and the grace of a ballet dancer, AI was always a site to behold. For years he carried the 76'ers, and the entire city of Philly, on his shoulders. It's sad to see his career winding down like none of us would have imagined via his recent stops in Detroit, Denver, Memphis, and Philly - but he seems to be embracing his role in Turkey for the time being. All I can really say is check the article over at Philly Mag - and pay homage to a basketball legend.

US Versus Them x Cthulhu Brewing (IPA)

Add this to the list of unexpected colloborations that I am excited about - the fella's from Temecula, UVT, hooked up with Cthulhu Brewing on not only the beer, but the label itself. Details below via UVT.

Matt and Ryan have won numerous awards for their complex and unexpected brews, and we wanted to continue with that by doing a twist on the ever popular IPA. They selected premium 2 row barley, coloring and caramel flavor comes from 2 speciality malts with a C-60 coloring rating and the blackness comes from a special de-husked roasted malt called Carafa Special 3 which is the darkest malt out there. Being that the Carafa malt is de-husked, it does not impart that very roasty, astringent or bitter coffee flavor you’d find in a stout, however it does leave a deep, dark tone to the appearance. It was bittered with Chinook and flavored with Amarillo Centenial and Simcoe (Those three hops varieties make up the main flavoring). The Simcoe and Amrarillo varieties were dry hopped. It was fermented with a California Ale Yeast to accentuate the clean bitterness and hop flavors. Has about a 75 IBU rating (how they rate the bitterness).

And of course, hand drawn artwork for the label.
